Giving Wen Another Go (or Maybe Second Time’s The Charm)

What seems like a million years ago (but really in the summer of 2007), I was asked if I’d be interested in trying out a new hair product. I was told that I would be given a 2 months supply of it, and all I had to do in exchange for it was take a before and after photo and be open to the idea of being asked some questions on camera.

What girl would say no to that! Free beauty products? I’m in!

The product was Wen by Chaz Dean, and I really loved the product! It was a little different getting used to it. It’s a cleansing conditioner so you only use one product, and it doesn’t lather. At the time, I had never used a sulfate-free shampoo before, so it was a pretty big adjustment.

After my after photo was taken and I ran out of product. I stopped using it. It was getting a little expensive for me, and back then my hair was significantly thicker so I used a lot of product each time I washed my hair.

But ever since 2007, every so often I’ll catch a peek at myself in the infomercial for the product.

Yup, that’s my before and after photo on the end of the middle row. Those photos were taken right before I started dyeing my hair red again.

When my aunt was in town recently, she brought me a couple of bottles of Wen. She had gotten the products off of the infomercial since she knew that I liked them. But it didn’t work as well as she would have liked for her hair.

Again, free beauty products? I’m totally in!

I’ve been using the Wen again for about 2 weeks now. I can’t tell if I notice a huge difference in my hair or not, but the color doesn’t seem to be fading as fast as it normally does. Also, this time around I like the idea of using one product. I get it all massaged into my hair, clip it up, and then I can everything else I need to do in the shower without my hair in the way. That’s pretty nice. And since I always use sulfate-free products now, the lack of lather in my hair doesn’t bother me as much.

Will I buy Wen when my 3 bottles run out? I don’t know. I’m going to see how fast I go through a bottle and figure out the cost per use. I know how long it takes me to go through my normal shampoo/conditioner, so if the cost per use isn’t a huge difference, I might invest in it.

I also want to see what my friend who does my hair has to say about the condition of my hair. I know that she’ll be totally honest with me, and if she says that my hair is in better condition one way, I’ll probably do things that way.

Any of you out there have any experience with Wen (or another cleansing conditioner) and want to share your stories/advice/opinions? I’d really like to hear what others have to say!
