Honest Company (or Going To Target And Seeing Celebrities)

On one of the blogger groups I belong to on Facebook, one blogger mentioned that there was an event coming up at Target to celebrate the Honest Company having their products for sale there. I gave the blogger my information and hoped that I would be picked to attend this event, and somehow I was lucky enough to be chosen!

The event took place at a City Target in Westwood. City Targets are smaller than the usual ones, but they are in places that really need a Target and don’t have a space for a huge store (Westwood is right by UCLA so you know those students could use a Target).

I’ve been familiar with the Honest Company for a while. I absolutely love their hand sanitizer gel (I always have one in my purse) and I use their lotion at nighttime (I try to use lotion with sunscreen during the day and their lotion doesn’t have SPF in it).

And I have another reason to love Honest. They did a contest for babies to appear on their marketing, and my friend Heather’s son James won the contest and is now featured on their diaper boxes!

So I was pretty darn excited to go to this event already, but I got even more hyped up when I walked in and was handed a press pass.

I don’t know why having a press pass is so exciting for me, but it is! I also got a really great swag bag when I walked in!

We had some time to kill before the blogger event started, so I walked around to see if I could find Heather’s son on a diaper box. It took a few minutes of looking, but I found it!

I texted that picture to Heather to let her know I found James on a box, and she texted back that she was on her way to the event! Again, I got super excited (I swear it was like I was on a sugar high). I got to see Heather and her kids before heading in to the blogger event and already people were noticing that the baby from the diaper box was there.

Eventually, I left Heather and her family to go to a private blogger roundtable with the founders of the Honest Company (Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan) as well as a representative from Target (whose name I sadly have forgotten).

I noticed that behind Christopher Gavigan there was another diaper box with James on it and I mentioned something to the blogger I was sitting next to. Christopher heard me say that, and he looked at me with shock and said, “Is that baby really here?”. I let him know yes and he insisted on getting to meet James. So not only was I in a room with a celebrity (Jessica Alba), my friend’s baby who I hung out with earlier was a celebrity to the founders of the company!

The blogger roundtable was pretty cool. Basically everyone in there was a mom, so a lot of the conversation was about baby stuff. But I did get to ask my question (I want the Honest Company to make travel sizes of their products) so that was pretty amazing.

After the roundtable, of course I had to get a picture with Jessica Alba.

I wanted one with Christopher Gavigan as well, but he was very busy talking to some other people. But as I was leaving, he made me promise to introduce him to James.

I headed back out to the store where the next part of the event was happening and found Heather and her family. I let them know that James was turning out to be the big celebrity of the night. I also said how the founders were so excited to meet James. And once Jessical Alba and Christopher Gavigan came out to the next part of the event, they saw James and made a pretty big deal out of him being there.

After the event, it was time for me to head home (I don’t need to be tempted to spend money in Target!). This was such an amazing event and I really felt honored to be invited to it. I still consider myself a newbie blogger so getting to go to something that Target was doing was amazing.

If you haven’t checked out the Honest Company before, I highly recommend it. Most of their products are now in Target stores so they are super easy to find!

FOX Girls’ Night Out (or Getting To Meet Women I Admire)

This past Monday I was invited to go to the FOX Girls’ Night Out event that was being held at the Television Academy. I of course said yes!

Things were a little tough driving over to North Hollywood (there was a shooter incident very close to the Academy and there were street closures I wasn’t expecting). The event started at 7:30 and had advised everyone to be at least 30 minutes early, but I didn’t even park my car until about 7:20.

Luckily for me, I went to the event by myself and managed to find a single seat free pretty close to the front. Thank goodness for people wanting to have a one-seat buffer around them!

I’ve been to the Television Academy before many years ago. I actually went to a screening and Q&A for “Brokeback Mountain” there before that movie was released. But I’m still in awe over how cool the theater is (and how awesome the giant Emmy statues are).

The event was pretty amazing with some of the most incredible women in television on the stage.

IMG_3184

On the stage is Jane Lynch (from “Glee”), Chelsea Peretti (from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Mindy Kaling (creator, writer, and star of “The Mindy Project”), Liz Meriweither (executive producer of “New Girl”), Heather Kadin (executive producer of “Sleepy Hollow”), Yeardley Smith (the voice of Lisa on “The Simpsons”), and Alex Borstein (voice of Lois on “Family Guy”).

I mean, seriously, this is a dream team of women!

The Q&A covered some background on everyone’s stories as well as advice that they wanted to share with all of us. That lasted maybe an hour and then the Q&A was over and there was a reception with appetizers and champagne in the lobby.

But I noticed that some of the women were standing at the stage saying hello to people, so I headed up there to try to thank some of the panelists for coming and sharing their wisdom.

I had a brief second to talk to Jane Lynch. She shook my hand and asked my name and I told her how I admire her and her career so much. I didn’t get to take a picture with her, but that’s ok.

Next, I went over to Yeardley Smith. I have loved “The Simpsons” for forever and wanted to thank her for coming as well. I did get a chance for a picture with her.

After that, we were all told that we had to head out to the reception. But once I got out there, I noticed that Mindy Kaling was still saying hello to people and taking pictures. So I lined up like a crazy fan (which I am, I just try to play it cool more often). The picture is a little blurry, but I’m so glad I got it.

IMG_3188

Again, I got to thank her for coming to the event and tell her that I think she is an amazing role model for other women trying to make it in the entertainment industry.

After my pictures, I was walking around to see if there was anyone I knew hanging out in the lobby, and my friend Porter Kelly called my name. I hadn’t seen Porter in a while and it was awesome to get to catch up with her! I loved taking her commercial class a while back (which if any of you actors want to take, Porter said that any of my blog readers can get a discount!).

Before I knew it, it was getting late and I wanted to head home so I could get a decent night sleep before working the next morning. On our way out, we noticed that the step and repeat was still up so Porter and I got a quick picture in front of it.

On the other side of the red carpet, they had the signs for all the various entertainment shows to know where their reporters could stand to do interviews. They don’t give each show a lot of space.

I had such an amazing evening that night and felt more invigorated than ever that I’m on the right career path and that one day it will be my turn. Hopefully that day comes soon, but I’m willing to wait it out.

Bingo Night (or Helping Out The Pet Matchmaker)

After our pretty much failed attempt at snow and sand in one day, Kate and I both went back to our homes to rest and get ready for Drag Queen Bingo! This was at the same place that the last Drag Queen Bingo was at (I don’t know if there is even more than one place in LA for Drag Queen Bingo).

IMG_2586

Every Bingo night, it’s a fundraiser for a different charity. This time, it was a fundraiser for The Pet Matchmaker, one of the blogs that I freelance on. I was super excited to support the blog and all the good that they do. And this particular fundraiser was to help the blog officially become a non-profit charity (there’s lots of paperwork and lawyer’s fees to pay for).

Kate and I got to Bingo pretty early, so we were able to order some food and drinks before all the games started. And yes, of course, I drank a Dirty Shirley.

Once Bingo got started, there were several celebrity callers that evening. First of all, Elaine Hendrix, the founder of The Pet Matchmaker, was there. She knows me through some mutual friends as well as the blog, so it was great to see her. The next celebrity caller was Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on “Bewitched”. I love watching that show so seeing her was actually very cool! And we learned some cute trivia about Erin: her husband’s name is Darren (which was the dad’s name on “Bewitched”). The final celebrity caller for the night was Randall, who you might know as the narrator of the Honey Badger YouTube video! He and I have a mutual friend (and are represented by the same agents) so it was great to see him as well!

Bingo was so much fun! The crowd is so energetic and while everyone wanted to win, it was a fun competitive room. And I got pretty close to winning a few times.

IMG_2593

I never won, but I that’s ok. I still had a great time! Kate got really close to winning a few times as well.

After Bingo was done, Elaine grabbed me and a couple of other people and we went into a back room to hang out for a bit (they had to clear out the restaurant for the 9pm Bingo to start on time). In the back, I got a picture with Randall so I could show my agents that two of their actors were hanging out together.

IMG_2597

And of course, I got a picture with the host of the evening as well.

IMG_2601

After chatting for a bit, it was time for me and Kate to head out (our meter was about to expire!). I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but I do know that we raised quite a bit for The Pet Matchmaker at Bingo. Hopefully it was enough to get all the non-profit paperwork filed because I know that the site has a lot of amazing things ahead once that is all finalized.

If I know of another Drag Queen Bingo fundraiser for The Pet Matchmaker, I’ll try to remember to post it on here so I can get some blog readers out to join us!

DJ Tanner and Lip Gloss (or Just Another Saturday in LA)

This past Saturday, I happened to have the day off from my main day job. I was going to do some random work for friends, but I pretty much had the day off.

I was checking twitter (you all know how much I love twitter) and I saw that Candace Cameron Bure was tweeting about how she was selling lip gloss for charity at her kid’s hockey game. I guess a bunch of people tweeted back at her saying that they wanted to buy lip gloss, so she tweeted out again that she was only selling them out of the back of her car and you had to be in LA to get some.

Well, I’m in LA and I really needed lip gloss for my friend’s wedding coming up, so I tweeted at her and asked if I could buy some. And I was so excited to get a tweet back saying yes!

So I headed down to where she was, and the whole time I was thinking how the younger me would be totally freaking out that I was about to meet DJ Tanner from “Full House”! I loved that show as a kid, and even now, when there is a rerun on tv, I’ll still watch.

I got down to the practice, tweeted at Candace that I was there, and she met me at the front to sell me the lip gloss! And I have to say that she is the sweetest person I’ve met. We had a really nice conversation, and then she suggested that we take a picture so I could tweet it out (I love that I didn’t have to ask to take a picture).

Not only is it a great picture, but I absolutely love the kid posing in the background!

I didn’t want to take up too much of Candace’s time, so we said goodbye and I headed to my personal organizer job that I had that afternoon.

And the lip gloss that I bought, it’s pretty great and I got some nice colors!
